NOTICE TRANSIT TAX BREAK With the approval of the 2006 federal budget, you will be able to claim a portion of the cost of your transit pass on your 2009 Income Tax Return. You will also be able to claim transit passes for your dependents. This will apply to monthly passes. The non-refundable tax credit will be 15% in 2009 of the cost of your pass. Example: January to March 2009 = 3 adult passes @ $160.00 X 15% = $72.00 April to December 2009 = 9 adult passes @ $175.00 X 15% = $236.25 January to March 2009 = 3 student passes @ $110.00 X 15% = $49.50 April to December 2009 = 9 student passes @ $125.00 X 15% = $168.75 IMPORTANT!In order to claim this tax credit, please keep your expired transit pass as your receipt, starting with your July pass and file your expired pass vouchers in a safe place.
